Last week, the departments of Serials (ie comic books) and Prints & Photographs (ie original art and posters) put on small exhibit for a couple of hours in recognition of Will Eisner's 100th birthday. In addition to Spirit comic books, there was original art by Eisner, as well as other comics and comic book pages.

Cartoonist Stephan Pastis appears at the 2015 Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.

Speaker Biography: Stephan Pastis used to be a lawyer. Now, he is the award-winning cartoonist who creates "Pearls Before Swine," a syndicated daily comic strip that runs in 750 newspapers around the world. The humorous comic strip's host of friends -- Rat, Pig, Goat and Zebra -- deliver a smart, witty and painfully honest commentary on modern issues ranging from politics to pop culture. Pastis tends to produce his comics at an unusual five to nine months ahead of the deadline. His latest collection is "Pearls Gets Sacrificed: A Pearls Before Swine Treasury." In addition to creating "Pearls Before Swine," Pastis is the author of the best-selling children's chapter book series Timmy Failure.

The Serial & Government Publications Division of the Library of Congress has been collecting material at and from the Small Press Expo (SPX) for a few years. They've got an exhibit of some of the material in the main Jefferson building through October. Images courtesy of the LoC.

SPX opens Saturday at 11 am. 

at noon about his new, "328 page graphic novel called Ruins that follows a fictional couple on sabbatical in Mexico and in tandem the migration of the Monarch butterfly."

Comic Riffs caught that the Matt Bors award was online, but there's a bunch more cartoonist videos including Trudeau, Auth, Davies, Morin, Toles, Bagley and Sherffius (who's quit cartooning).   No Wuerker though.

Independent scholar Warren Bernard returns to the Library of Congress on Wednesday, March 31, to give a talk in conjunction with the Herblock! exhibition, "Declaration of Independence: Herblock: His Foes and His Editors". This event will take place in Dining Room A located on the 6th Floor of the Madison Building at noon.

Warren writes in,

This time, I am going to lecture on his editorial independence, and get into a few battles he had with his editors. This will include showing the cartoons that even the Washington Post did not run (though indeed his syndicated papers did run them) when Herblock and the then-editor of the Post, Phil Graham went head to head. This was not the first time Herblock battled his editors; we will also get into a large battle he had prior to his coming to the Post He was an ardent anti-isolationist, much to the chagrin of the isolationist syndicate he worked for.

We will get into all of this, and show cartoons galore!!

Scoop noticed that the Library of Congress' Poetry site appreciates Archie. Or at least his taste in poetry. No word on its opinion about his taste in women.

On the GN-LIB list for librarians, it's reported As of last month, "Superhero comic books, strips, etc." is now an official LC Subject Heading, and thus is also usable as an LC genre heading.

Unlike Moses, I may get to see the Promised Land.
